A big night of mixed martial arts is set in the Big Apple. The Ultimate Fighting Championship is putting together an exciting pay-per-view on Saturday night, as UFC 281 is set to take place at the World’s Greatest Arena, Madison Square Garden.

The main event of the night will be for the Middleweight title, as Israel The Last Stylebender” Adesanya gets set to defend his belt against Alex Pereira. A rematch of sorts dating back to the duo’s kickboxing days.

Adesanya is coming into in his sixth defense of the title, and still has yet to lose in the Middleweight division. The fighter has a career record of 23-1, with 15 wins coming by way of knockout. However, his last three title fights have ended in a decision, including a rather controversial end to his bout with Jared Cannonier at UFC 276. Adesanya is ranked as the No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

On that same night at UFC 276, Pereira came away with a first-round knockout victory over Sean Strickland. The multi-time kickboxing world champion has a career record of 6-1, with five of those wins coming by knockout since his debut with the promotion last year. Pereira has a pair of wins over Adesanya in kickboxing action.

The other championship bout will see Women’s Strawweight champ Carla “Cookie Monster” Esparaza take on Zhang “Magnum” Weili.

Esparaza is a two-time champion in the division, reclaiming the belt that she inaugurally won at UFC 274 over Rose Namajunas. The former winner of The Ultimate Fighter has a 19-6 record in MMA, and is the No. 4 ranked pound-for-pound women’s fighter.

Zhang is also looking to regain the Strawweight title, the first, and so far only Chinese-born UFC champion has a career record of 18-4, and is capable of delivering a knockout or two. Zhang beat Joanna Jedrzejczyk via knockout at UFC 274, a rematch of their 2020 Fight of the Year.

Another notable fight on the card on Saturday will see Dustin Poirier take on Michael Chandler, with the winner potentially in line for a Lightweight title shot.
